Albany Cottage, close by the North Harris hills, is ideally situated for walkers and cyclists. There is some serious and challenging walking for connoisseurs, and plenty of shorter walks for
amblers and ramblers. See WalkHighlands for
routes & maps.
Spacious, lockable shed, ideal for bike storage. Heatable, with an overhead airer for drying off outdoor gear. Indoor utility room for laundry.
Books of local walks, laminated OS maps.
You can walk in the North Harris hills, climb the Clisham, Harris's highest point, with spectacular views, see the Eagle Observatory, walk the new
track to the Scalpay lighthouse.
The roads are quiet for cyclists. A circular tour of south Harris takes in a variety of rocky inlets, moorland and west coast beaches, with ample opportunities for coffee and cake stops. Sustrans national cycle route 780 - The Hebridean Way - runs right through Harris and up to Lewis.
Look out for the Harris Mountain Festival each September: a range of guided walks, talks and presentations, the Five Peaks Challenge, boat
trips, film nights and a ceilidh.
